Association resents demolition of its office
ITANAGAR, Jan, 14: All Arunachal Public Bus Welfare Association (AAPBWA) today expressed it’s anguish over the alleged dismantling of their office by the district administration at Ganga. It claimed that administration has carried out eviction drive without prior notification to it. Association said that the office was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secretary Gadam Ete six months ago.
DC inspects Pering watershed project at Pugging
YINGKIONG, Jan 14: Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Liyon Borang, who is also Chairman of National Watershed Development Project for Rainfed area, visited Pering Watershed Development Project, Pugging yesterday.
Accompanied by Dr. T Taggu, DVO, D Diyum, DPO, of Upper Siang District, Team Leader of Watershed RD Singh, ADO, Yopak Sitek, ASM and other Watershed Committee members, the Deputy Commissioner also inspected the newly constructed irrigation channel of about 500 meter. NYP launches ESDP in Tezu
ITANAGAR, Jan 14: National Youth Project (NYP) launched its 5th entrepreneurship and skill development program (ESDP) on Fashion Designing at Tezu on January 12 sponsored by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Guwahati, under Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India.
While informing this, NYP in a release said that altogether 150 unemployed youth from the districts are attending training on various income generating activities.
YARP opposes project site bandh
ITANAGAR, Jan 14: The Youth Association of Rose Panchayat (YARP) has opposed the proposed Pare Hydro Electric Project (PHEP) site bandh call on January 15 by contract employees group, which came to knowledge of the association from the posters displayed by the bandh callers.
“We will stand by NEEPCO Ltd authority on this issue since the issue raised by the 25 contract employees is confined to them only,” YARP said in a release.

ITANAGAR, Jan, 14: Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has conducted its 28th Youth Annual Conference at Town Baptist Church, Sangram under Sangram Pastoral Range from 10th to 13th January last. Rev Changa Chippo, Principal Arunachal Theological College Moinhappa and Rev Halli Likha, general secretary of NBCC were the speakers on the theme “Rooted in Christ.”

Orientation workshop on CCRT
ITANAGAR, Jan 14: “Knowledge, intellect and wisdom are the concern of the education lying in the faith and trust which are needed to be linked within the periphery of culture and these should be included in school curriculum,” said Papum Pare DDSE T T Tara. He was inaugurating the workshop on Centre for Cultural Resource and Training (CCRT) under the Union ministry of culture at URC building, Naharlagun on Jan 10 last. The workshop was organized mainly to orient the selected teachers to attend the national level CCRT workshop or orientation course. Much more creativity and cultural identities are the basic concern of the CCRT training which is linked with the productivity and must be taught to the students, he added.
In his address Papum Pare district programme coordinator, CCRT, Techi Papa Tara explained about the objectives of the workshop. He further advised the teachers who had participated in different national level workshops organized by the CCRT to share their knowledge with the students. Altogether 40 numbers of selected teachers took part in the workshop.
Last rites of Ven. Aggravansa Mahathera performed
MUDOI, Jan 14: The last rites of late Ven. Aggravansa Mahathera was performed today. Over 200 monks and thousands of Buddhist followers from various part of the North East thronged the Poileng ground to pull the Rath for final time.

The cremation ceremony started with citing of chants by monks and people offered their last respect through prayers. The Rath which is also the funeral pyre was lit as per old Buddhist tradition and custom.
Former CM mourns death of student leader
ITANAGAR, Jan 14: Former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin has deeply mourned the demise of student leader Goto Yudik at Alo on August 10 last.
In a condolence message, Gamlin said, “I am saddened by the untimely death of such a dynamic youth leader. It is not just a loss of a community, but of the youth of the entire State. In this hour of grief my condolences are with the bereaved family. I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength to bear the irreparable pain.”
While greatly appreciating the efforts everyone has put in to maintain the sense of peace after the incident, Gamlin expressed that we must make a serious note of the divisive forces that are breaking our traditional communities apart and creating disunity. “It will be an injustice to the sacrifice made by Goto if we do not take this shameful event as a marker of where our society is going wrong and to work collectively to ensure that such incidences do not recur. While it is important to severely punish the culprits who were involved, it is also important for us to stand united and maintain the sense of solidarity and harmony that has existed for generations. The only way for all communities in our State to move forward is with dignity and with extreme tolerance,” Gamlin said.

The crack down on dark tinted films on the windows of cars and other light vehicles were carried out following Supreme Court order of May, 2012.
The release said “As per the Supreme Court order of May, 2012, the black films of any tint have been banned and only car windows that have been tinted by the manufactures are allowed. All other vehicles with any percentage of tinted film are to be removed even if it is within the permissible limit of 70% transparency on the front and rear windows and 50% transparency for the side windows.”

AAPSU pays homage to former leader
ITANAGAR, Jan 14: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today paid homage to its former leader Khoda Dolu on his 9th death anniversary at Naharlagun today.
Newly elected AAPSU president Kamta Lapung led his team and others, including family members of late Dolu in paying floral tribute to the decorated portrait of late Dolu at his memorial pillar at Naharlagun.
Dolu, former chief coordinator of AAPSU, expired on January 14, 2004.
Speaking on the occasion, the AAPSU president fondly recalled his association with Dolu as AAPSU office bearers in 2001. He said that Dolu was a sincere and dedicated student leader, who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of student community of the state.
Meanwhile, Kamta appealed to the State Government to fulfill its assurance given to AAPSU in 2004 to provide job to family member (wife) of late Dolu. Responding to a request of Khoda Welfare Association (KWA), Kamta assured to take up the matter of naming road from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium to Lagun Bridge, Naharlagun after late Dolu with the Government.
While briefing about late Dolu’s student and social life, KWA president Khoda Tanik appealed AAPSU for extending help to the son and daughter of late Dolu for continuing their education. He also urged AAPSU to take up the matter of naming the road from RG Stadium to Lagun bridge after late Dolu with the authority.

CM lays foundation stone of Dambuen circle office, announces financial package
ANINI, Jan 14: Chief Minister Nabum Tuki has laid the foundation stone of recently notified Dambuen circle office in a colourful function. The notification of the circler headquarter and laying of foundation stone come as a magnificent new year gift as it was a long pending demand of the villagers living in this part of Dibang Valley district.
The Chief Minister accompanied by Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering, MPs Mukut Mithi and Takam Sanjoy, Education Minister Bosiram Siram, parliamentary secretary, UD, P. Richo, and host of top govt. officials arrived at picturesque Dambuen yesterday for a two days visit to the district. It is the maiden visit of the CM to the district after assuming the office of the CM.
At the evening, CM and the dignitaries attended the local programme being organized in the honour of visiting dignitaries at the private residence of host Minister R. Tacho. Myriad cultural and lyrical events were presented to the VIPs. CM also distributed umbrellas to the GBs at the gathering.

Orgs condemn Aalo incident, appeal for peace
ITANAGAR, Jan 14: The Galo Indigenous Faith & Cultural Council (GIFCC) has vehemently condemned the Aalo incident in which Goto Yudik, a student leader lost his life.
“It is the duty of Galo Welfare Society to prevent such incident by organizing the programme in proper way like deployment of well trained volunteers, adequate security in proper consultation with district administration and proper coordination among the student organizations etc.”, the GIFCC said. If the GWS and Organising committee would have taken such steps, this incident could have been avoided, the Council observed.
The GIFCC appeals to all the sections of the Galo Society to maintain peace and harmony and also appeals to the constituted peace committee to solve the problems as soon as possible to give justice to the bereaved family.

JSM termed the incident unfortunate and appealed all the sections of the society to maintain peace and tranquillity to bring the situation back to normal.

While mourning the death of student leader Goto Yudik, the meeting also extended condolences to the bereaved family and also prayed to almighty to give strength to his family members to overcome the anguish, the incident has caused to them.
Lobom Welfare Society (LWS) has strongly condemned the incident that took place at Aalo during the Galo Bane Keba on January 10.
The person(s) involved in the incident should be arrested immediately and bee punished them as per law, LWS said in a release.
While conveying heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss, LWS prayed to almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
It also appealed Galo brethren of the state to maintain peace and tranquility during this hour of need.

He narrated that Swamiji charmed the whole world with his knowledge and threw light on Swamiji’s triumph in Chicago. He said that when Swamiji went to Chicago to participate in the world parliament of religions he met many American intellectuals and spoke his vision for end of violence and fenatism.
Yosung, who is the president of East Siang unit of Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) acknowledged the selfless service rendered by Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalayas (VKV) to the people of Arunachal by imparting quality education and creating human resources. Stressing on “emancipation of Indian women, he opined that women should be given proper education for the development of the societies.

Changlang celebrates 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda
CHANGLANG, Jan 14: The 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated at Changlang in befitting manner on January 12 last. The celebration started with mass procession which was culminated at DIET auditorium. A large number of people including representatives from Vivekananda Kendra Arunjyoti, VKV Schools, students, officers, officials, panchayat leaders and various indigenous organizations took part in the procession.
Speaking on the occasion M.C. Roy Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Changlang, said, Swami Vivekananda was an ardent disciple of Rama Krishna, the first Hindu Monk in modern times who travelled on foot throughout the length and breadth of the country to spread the message of universal brotherhood, religious tolerance and social harmony. He appealed the new generation to follow the ideology and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda to remain united and to maintain the unity and integrity of the country. Roy asked every section of people to extend cooperation in the year long celebration started from 12th January.
John Jugli, ZPM, Changlang South, informed that, since 1984 onwards 12th January notified to be celebrated as ‘youth day’. The motto is to motivate and inculcate the valuable teaching and ideology of Swami Vivekananda in real life. He hoped the celebration would inspire the youths to bring new era of development, prosperity, progress and unity.

Pact signed to combat illegal tobacco trade
Twelve countries have signed a new United Nations treaty that aims to counter the illegal tobacco trade, which undermines regulation policies and represents a burden for health care systems.
Representatives from China, France, Gabon, Libya, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Panama, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Syria, Turkey and Uruguay signed the UN Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products during a ceremony at the UN World Health Organization’s (WHO) headquarters in Geneva.
The new Protocol aims to help protect people across the globe from the health risks of tobacco, which kills nearly six million people every year. Approximately one person dies every six seconds due to tobacco and this accounts for one in 10 adult deaths.
The treaty advocates combating the illegal trade in tobacco products through control of the supply chain and international cooperation. As a key measure, Parties commit to establishing a global tracking and tracing system to reduce and eventually eradicate illicit trade.
The adoption of the Protocol is the result of close cooperation between multiple sectors of government, said the Head of the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), Haik Nikogosian.

Do we live in democracy ?
Dear Editor,
As being vigilant citizens of the state, we question the crippled law and order situation prevailing in the state that has come to limelight lately. With the culprit of ‘Tongam Rina shooting case’ still at large and the recent recovery of grenade in furtherance of extortion threat suggests the deteriorating state of affairs and the pitiable situation of citizens.
Do we live in democracy? Are our life secured? Are we at liberty? Are our Rights intact? As per the Indian Constitution (under Articles 19, 20, 21), it is the foremost duty of the State to guarantee life, liberty and freedom of its citizens. My right to defend my life is limited and circumstantial, whereas, in spite of having adequate tools and machineries to execute efficiently and contain the law and order situation, we fail to understand whether the administrative machinery is lacking or the administrators are incompetent?
With the culmination of serious law and order problems, our life itself is at stake leave alone the freedom of liberty. It is in the greater interest that the State should aspire to restore democracy in its true sense and firmly secure its citizens’ Rights. Simultaneously, the Citizens’ ought to perform their respective duties thereby extending their role in order to effect proficient administration.
It is out rightly shocking that the state is witnessing such grave criminal activities and the situation is aggravating on a routine basis.
